Like all of Elizabeth Peters' heroines, Vicky is an intelligent character who can rise to any occasion. She is forever bemoaning the tall shapely figure which makes women mistrust her on sight and men ignore the brain beneath the flowing blond hair. Not your typical cookie-cutter ingenue, she is a trained art historian whose knowledge frequently proves helpful when she must solve the mysteries she finds herself involved in.

Peters, as usual, mixes mystery fiction with enough historical facts to make these books both exciting and educational. And as Vicky might say, you never know what knowledge may prove useful down the road.
